PLATFORM UPDATES
New capabilities loading…
META → Community Notes are officially rolling out on Facebook and Instagram…what could possibly go wrong? Without going down the opine rabbit hole, this update will enable users to submit a note on a post under the guise of providing more context or correcting information that they believe to be faulty. When notes are submitted, they will be rated by Meta’s approved Notes Community contributors and political bias will be considered.
BLUESKY → The platform has added a sleuth of new features, including the ability for creators to upload videos up to three minutes in length. The extended video length capability puts the platform more in-line with the standards on other streams like Reels and TikTok. In addition, the platform has now added a “DM Request” folder, also similar to that of other apps. The request folder will hold any DMs that accounts receive from users that aren’t connected or mutuals.
TIKTOK → Instead of a ‘fit check, TikTok has revealed a new way to do a security check on your account to make sure you’re safe and sound. The security check can be accessed via an account’s Settings toggle and offers a number of ways to up your account’s guardrails.

HOW THEY CREATED IT
The BTS with a creator in social impact
Meet Ariana Jasmine, an Iranian-American news content creator who covers current events from the lens of a progressive.
What's something you wish someone told you before starting to make content?
“Believe in yourself, bet on yourself, and drown out all voices that aren’t supportive. Trust me, if you go after it and stay consistent, it’ll be worth the struggle!”
Why is making political content so important to you?
“As a person who has two parents both fighting cancer and coming from a working-class background, political content is so important to me because voices like mine have never been represented in traditional media. Political content is crucial to me, and voices from all backgrounds/ethnicities should be platformed because we all bring our unique views to different societal struggles.”
What issue areas have you seen more of on social media? Which of these excite you?
“I’m seeing many stand with Middle Eastern people and our fight against American imperialism in the past year; it makes my heart warm because traditionally, only mass media covered Middle Eastern news, and they usually did a terrible job at it (and still do).”
How do you balance online versus offline time?
“Truthfully, I need to be better at this because ever since Donald Trump’s inauguration, I’ve been struggling with doom-scrolling and refreshing news on my phone all day!! I have started to take hot girl walk breaks and timers on my phone, which has helped a lot.”
