a note on the (potential) tiktok ban.
Hi friends,
With the potential of TikTok being banned, we want to make sure you all are informed on how we are going to be shifting our work at Social Currant.
We want to be clear that the TikTok ban will not affect the work that we are doing in partnership with our creator community. We will continue campaigns and supporting you all in talking about causes you care about online as we’ve done over the past few years.
The ban will have major ramifications for the nature of impact related conversations online, creator’s income and careers, and the general entertainment and education that the app has provided.
Despite our hopes, we have to prepare for the worst –
Here are a few things we are doing on the campaign side in partnership with organizations:
Shift more focus to other short-form platforms: Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, etc.
Invest more in long-form content on YouTube and other platforms
Start investing more in paid creator communities, such as Substack and Patreon
Here are a few things we are doing to support you all in your online presence:
Emphasizing the importance of diversifying posts to other platforms
Supporting our creators in growing their following on other social media platforms
Planning briefings and workshops to support creators on new platforms and paid communities
Keeping creators informed with updates as more news around the potential ban develops
Additionally, here is a resource to check out with steps to take pre-(potential) TikTok ban. If there are any additional resources or questions you have, please feel free to reach out to our team at any point.
As things shift, we will continue to communicate with you all of the most effective ways to collaborate with impact-driven organizations and continue supporting our community in impact-related work. Make sure to join our Creator Community on Slack for the latest updates.
We were founded in 2020 with the goal of investing in people and paying creators to talk about causes they care about, and TikTok ban or not, we will continue to do so.
Let’s see what happens 🤞
